We’ve all learned to knowand love 100 gecs’ hyperpop sound as a child of the internet, of niche memes, of being dumb and stoned, of corn chips and dentists’ appointments.
Through the years, while listening to “bloodstains” in their 2017 self-titled EP, and all the way to “mememe” in their 2023 LP “10,000 gecs“, we thought we’d be ready for the madness of their live performance.
The truth is that nothing could prepare you for a night in the gecs’ pit, but if you make it out alive, you’ll have some crazy stories to tell your grandchildren.

This show, sponsored by Pitchfork and titled Pitchfork Presents: 2023 Year In Music, showcased preceding artists like DJ Yoda, Liturgy, and Tisakorean. These very different openers were all linked by the incredible energy that translated onto the audience in their performances.

As the intro for “Dumbest Girl Alive” started playing, the gecs appeared on stage and NYC’s cold weather became a distant memory and replaced by the warm, wild, alive energy within The Knockdown Center.

Overall, Pitchfork presented an incredibly electrifying show beginning to end, and through its dynamism, virtuosity, as well as a pinch of madness, it was hard to not come out of the venue with a smile on your face (and a couple of bruises on your knees).
