With their evocative blend of indie folk and atmospheric rock, The Paper Kites have a reputation for transforming their live performances into ethereal journeys: come along with us for this one at the VEGA on a rainy Sunday night in Copenhagen.
Before The Paper Kites took the stage, the evening began with the gentle, soulful melodies of Rosie Carney and her band. Carney’s ethereal voice, coupled with delicate instrumentation, set a serene tone for the night, enchanting the audience with her introspective lyrics and heartfelt delivery.
Rosie would later rejoin The Paper Kites on stage for a breathtaking rendition of “By My Side” from the 2021 album Roses, blending their harmonies beautifully and creating a moment of pure, shared musical magic.
After Rosie Carney’s enchanting performance, it was time for The Paper Kites to take the stage, bringing their own brand of magic to the evening. Known for their ability to craft an atmosphere that ranges from gentle indie folk to evocative rock, they captivated the audience with each song. The highlight of the night came when the band gathered around a vintage large diaphragm condenser mic for iconic performances of “Bloom” and “Paint.”
Their harmonies blended beautifully, creating an intimate, almost sacred experience. As the show progressed, their sound evolved, moving from the delicate strumming of folk melodies to the more powerful crescendos of their rock-infused tracks, leaving the audience in awe of their dynamic range and emotive depth.
As the final notes of their encore faded away, the hall was left in a silence that echoed the evening’s enchantment and lingered long after, a testament to the spell The Paper Kites had cast over Copenhagen that night.
