Canadian punk band PUP and indie-rock artist Jeff Rosenstock brought their A CATACLYSMIC RAPTURE OF FRIENDSHIPNESS Tour to New York earlier this September.

I found PUP at the beginning of the summer and have had “Sleep in The Heat” on repeat… in the heat. Being my song of the summer, I needed to see it live.

I knew it would be loud. I didn’t know it would hit that hard.

I went to the Brooklyn Paramount with my roommate and bestie, Lia! We got there early and headed up to the lounge for a drink. She and I were able to tag-team the show; she would shoot Jeff Rosenstock, and I would shoot Pup.

Another AFZ photographer, Hannah, is a huge Pup fan, and so are many of my friends. I had no idea the impact this band was making on so many people who are close to me.

From the first listen, “Sleep in the Heat” felt like a memory I didn’t know I had. Aching and familiar. The lyrics truly hit my soul.

I see sleeping in the heat as a metaphor for being unable to escape discomfort, loneliness, or grief, even when things are heavy and intense.

Pup’s lyrics are full of raw honesty, driven by angsty emotion. I love it!

“Sleep in the Heat” is one of my new favorite songs ever. I was eager to hear “DVP” live. The whole album The Dream Is Over is a master piece.

The opener went on right as we got into the venue. We enjoyed Ekko’s set from the lounge and went down for PUP. I literally could not stop smiling! I was so excited.

Pup ended their second night at the Brooklyn Paramount with playing “If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You I Will” right into “DVP.”

Jeff Rosenstock

We would describe Jeff Rosenstock’s set as “a lot of fun.” I also woke up with no voice. Such a great night.

Seeing PUP and Jeff Rosenstock live was louder, messier, and more alive than ever. Sharing it all with my roommate (and my camera) made it feel even more special.
