REX ORANGE COUNTY LIVE AT PIER SIX PAVILION 05/10/22

On May 10, 2022 Rex Orange County performed in Baltimore, MD for the first time. Also known as Alex O’Connor, Rex Orange County is a high energy indie style performer with a bit of jazz and rock influence. Playing outside at the Pier Six Pavillion, it was a first time for many at this venue. It’s a beautiful place since it is right by the water, and the weather was perfect for the evening. The crowd was very welcoming and every interaction between the fans seemed so kind. This show was a dream come true for many, including myself.

Lots of fans were ecstatic to hear the older songs just as much as they were to hear the new ones. Rex Orange County released his fourth album in March, called Who Cares?. Rex’s setlist consisted of 22 songs mixed from all his albums and a cover of Lovin’ You by Minnie Riperton. Opening with Making Time, everyone was so excited to see him come out on stage. Jumping and singing along with him was like a big party with disco balls spinning in the background. At one point during Loving is Easy he got the fans to toss beach balls around. Throughout the performance, Rex took many moments to be present with us, wanting to make sure everyone would remember these special moments. During Best Friend at the end, he made everyone put their phones away and just had us all sing and dance together. For the “One More Song” encore chant, he ended the night with Pluto Projector which is a perfect closing song.

Personally for me this was such an amazing opportunity that I’m so thankful for. Missing out two times from previous shows and finally getting to see him made it such a full circle experience. I told myself when I first saw Rex, I’d have to go alone- I did. Since it was also my first time at that venue it was a bit nerve racking at first. All the people I met at this show really calmed me down though. I’m so happy the others danced with me. That just made it really feel that we were all there in that moment together.

Rex Orange County is currently on his Who Cares? Tour until November. l really recommend seeing him if you have the chance. His energy mixed with the crowd will be one of those concerts you’ll remember forever. I got tickets to see him again in Pittsburgh, PA and I’m just counting down the days!
